When we hear the words tooth extraction, it can sometimes make us nervous. However, sometimes extractions are necessary, such as when a tooth is diseased, infected, or rotten. So if you’re experiencing one of these problems and looking for extractions in Brandon, FL, come to the dentists near you at Lithia Pinecrest Smiles and let us take care of you. Extraction doesn’t need to be scary, either. Advancements in technology have made it so that most extractions are nearly painless, and the recovery time is much less than it used to be.

Types of Extractions

If you’ve been to the dentist and had a tooth pulled, you may not be aware that there are two types of tooth extractions: simple and complex or surgical.

Here is a description of the two types of extractions:

Simple Extractions

Simple extractions are what most people think of when they think of having a tooth pulled at the dentist. This involved simply having the dentist remove a tooth in the mouth. This is typically done using a dental device similar to pliers or by hand and is generally fine so long as the tooth is in good shape and there are no signs of infection or other problems.

Complex Extractions

A dentist does not usually perform complex extractions because they require the help of an oral surgeon in most cases. These are the types of extraction where a tooth is broken or damaged and cannot be extracted normally; a tooth has some form of abnormality, such as being buried in the gum line and must be cut out.

The most common type of complex extraction that many patients are familiar with is wisdom tooth extraction. Many patients have to have their wisdom teeth extracted due to them being impacted (buried) in the gums. Leaving them in the gum can cause many oral health problems.
